As often the case with new builds, the landscaping is left unfinished. This large sunny front yard had a patchy lawn and a small porch and the homeowners wanted something contemporary to go with their new house.
The lawn was replaced with a garden in pea gravel surrounded by Corten steel edging. A low cedar deck was built in to give the owners a place to sit out front along with a spaced flagstone path for access to the deck and gardens. A custom Corten steel planter box was installed and planted in front of the porch steps. The low-maintenance plantings are a mix of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials for full sun, and a magnolia tree.
We love the mix of wood, stone, and steel softened by the textures of the plantings. There is definitely some wow factor now on this East York neighbourhood street!
